HEADLESS MULE CHAIR
RECÔNCAVO COLLECTION | 2025

ABOUT
The "Headless Mule" is an emblematic figure in Brazilian folklore. Originating as punishment for a woman who had a forbidden love affair with a priest, she is transformed into a four-legged, headless animal with fire coming from its neck. A narrative that explores desire, guilt, and repression.
Everton Souza reinterprets this story with delicacy and power. The creation, made of metal, harks back to the designer's childhood in the Recôncavo Baiano region, where legends like this were told as warnings, but also as fantasy. Nothing in the chair is literal. The closed, short backrest suggests restraint and invisibility. The sinuous seat cradles the body with ambiguity, between comfort and tension. The rear legs break with the logic of symmetry. The proportions defy classical patterns, intriguing the gaze.
The structure is entirely made of steel with electrostatic paint, available in black, sand, and palm blue, a choice that reinforces the contemporary character of the work without sacrificing its symbolic power. The Headless Mule Chair is a narrative artifact. It carries the silence imposed on women and the beauty of those who dare to cross imposed boundaries. A symbolic reinvention that affirms the right to tell and retell stories from new perspectives.
