DENDÊ: BODY, FIRE, AND NARRATIVE |
Studio Dendê was born from the encounter between culture, form, and memory. Founded by Everton Souza , the studio develops objects and furniture that translate references from Brazilian popular culture into the present, with rigorous design, conscious material choices, and a deeply affective vision of everyday life. The debut collection, Recôncavo, articulates experiences from the interior of Bahia in compositions that dialogue with the innovation and expressiveness of current Brazilian design.
Led by designer Everton Souza, Estúdio Dendê is a creative space where Brazilian design pulsates with affective memories, popular rhythms, and everyday gestures. Founded in 2024 as a tribute to his grandmother, a renowned Bahian cook known for bringing people together around her table and her cooking, the studio carries the essence of generosity and silent strength. Like many women who support their homes, children, and grandchildren through cooking, she made food a link between care, connection, and resilience. Dendê is born from this legacy and proposes a sensory, emotional, and multifaceted design.

Born in 1996 in the Recôncavo Baiano — a region known for its cultural effervescence, religious celebrations, and the strength of African, Indigenous, and Portuguese traditions — Everton Souza was raised amid popular festivities, oral knowledge, and the colorful landscapes of Bahia. From an early age, he was guided by a powerful desire to expand horizons, seek new references, and transform his creativity into a singular expression — a path that would lead to a unique language, rooted in the experiences of his territory yet open to the world. In 2023, he carried this drive to São Paulo. He left behind family and friends in search of aesthetic freedom and professional growth. He wanted to live in a city where he could dress and express himself the way he wished. Within a few months, he felt at home.
“São Paulo did me a lot of good,” he says. “Inspiration blossomed as if I were discovering a new world. Being close to fashion, brands, and festivals connected me to an unexplored universe — a portal that opened to everything I had always dreamed of creating.”
It was within this new creative territory that Everton began shaping Estúdio Dendê, while simultaneously joining the team of architect Melina Romano. In May 2024, he presented his first authorial creation, the Bimbo bench, at Casa Cor São Paulo, within the space designed by architect and designer Alê Salles, from Estúdio Tarimba. The debut, set in a highly visible context, not only marked his entry into the design circuit but also drew the attention of important opinion leaders.
Bimbo later became part of Casa Dexco, under the curatorship of Allex Colontonio and André Rodrigues, the Decornautas, in collaboration with architect Priscila Muller. The piece was exhibited at Conjunto Nacional, a modernist icon designed by architect Davi Libeskind, expanding its reach among influential voices and audiences connected to contemporary design.
The recognition gained by the Bimbo bench was the missing spark for Everton to affirm his voice as an independent designer. The creation opened paths and validated a sensitive, authorial trajectory deeply connected to Brazilian culture. Since then, he has begun creating with greater freedom and courage, aware that his perspective has both place and value. His works translate stories born from the land and memory, while simultaneously engaging with the present and the future.
Everton Souza is now a rising name in Brazilian design. His work is firmly rooted in Bahian and Northeastern culture, yet his gaze is directed toward the world, where design can become language, affection, and transformation.
